Sarita Jo Barnhart, 76, of Monon, passed away at 12:58 p.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at St. Elizabeth East/Franciscan Health of Lafayette.

She was born June 24, 1941 in Rockdale, Texas to the late Theodore Roosevelt and Sudye Mae (Anderson) McGee. After high school she graduated from beauty school and was a beautician in El Paso, Texas.

Her marriage was to Ray Dennis “Moose” Barnhart on September 10, 1964 in El Paso; he died July 3, 2011.

   Mrs. Barnhart worked in the Axle Department of Monon Trailer for many years until its close. Prior to that she worked for Bryan Manufacturing in Monticello. She was a proud past Secretary of the Carpenters and Joiners Local 2323 for many years.

Sarita liked to cook and bake, was an avid reader and an excellent writer and enjoyed going to movies and out to eat with friends. She was known to be highly competitive in cards and board games, especially Scrabble. She was very kind, compassionate, and generous to everyone. A true example of how to live as a Christian, she was always taking in those less fortunate than her, doing kind deeds for others and giving of her time and money, even when it was difficult to do so. Of her many character traits, one of the greatest was to find the good in people even when there was little to find. She brought a beauty and light to the world through love and kindness that will be sorely missed.

Surviving are her children, Ralph “Eddy” Bragg (wife: Sondra) of Monticello, Kelly Bragg of Monon and Kerry Strupp (Partner: Patrick Gill) of Fond du Lac, WI; an adopted daughter, Lisa Lamers (husband: Tim) of Chandler, AZ; a brother, Thomas Earl McGee of San Diego, CA and a step-sister, Sherrie Walker of Georgia. Sarita loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, Jessica, Marty, Kyle, Brandon, Taylor and Tyler and her great-grandchildren, Adam, Elijah, Jordy, Evie and Aubrey.

Preceding her in death with her parents and husband Ray are her step-father, Sherman Ramsey; her father and mother-in-law, Mervin and Florence Barnhart and her granddaughter, Jamie Jo Bragg

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 4 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Clapper Family Funeral Home (197 East State Road 16 Monon, IN); Pastor Russ Alley to officiate. Interment to follow at a later date in Bedford Cemetery, Monon.

Memorials may be made to the Monon United Methodist Church.
