Edith Aline Norwood

( March 29, 1935 - January 6, 2018 )

Edith Aline Norwood, 82, of Lafayette, went to meet her heavenly father on January 6, 2018 at 7:12 a.m. surrounded by her family.

She was born March 29, 1935 in Effingham County, Illinois to the late John W. and Clara (Smith) Kirby.

Her marriage of 51 years was to Wm. Ralph Norwood on September 8, 1950 in Hammond, Indiana; he preceded her in death on September 21, 2001.

Mrs. Norwood was a longtime member of the East Tipp Baptist Church and the Tippecanoe County Extension Homemakers where she was county President in 1998-1999.

Edith was a wonderful homemaker and mother. She took pride in providing for her children and her gift of hospitality to family and friends. She loved to sew and quilt and worked for Lafayette Upholstery for a few years. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling and entertaining. Edith personified dignity and class and always required a little bling for her clothing and appearance. Above all, she shared her gift of love by taking care of many of her close family members for many years while sick and declining.

Surviving are her children, Ralph L. Norwood, Jackie K. Diaz, Kirby L. Norwood and Becky Holladay (husband: Ron) all of Lafayette and a sister, Sallie L. Brown also of Lafayette. Edith loved spending time with her family, especially her 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren. She was looking forward to her first great-great-grandchild that is on the way.

Preceding her in death with her parents and husband Ralph is a daughter, Connie Lynn Hall and a brother, Donald Lee Kirby.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home (101 West 4th St. Brookston, IN); Pastor Larry Wood to officiate.

Memorials may be made to the East Tipp Baptist Church.
