Leonard C. “Butch” Zarse Jr., 70, of Chalmers, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Creasy Springs Health Campus of Lafayette.

He was born February 23, 1947 in Lafayette to the late Leonard C. and Audrey E. (Criswell) Zarse and was a graduate of Chalmers High School.

Mr. Zarse served in the United States Army from 1966 – 1968 and was a member of the Chalmers American Legion. He was a member of the Brookston Federated Church.

His marriage was to Betty Dodds on August 24, 1968 in Greenwood, IN. She preceded him in death on March 12, 2000.

Butch was a long time farmer and later in life drove for American Enterprise and Venture Logistics.

Surviving is a daughter, Amy Zarse Phillips of Indianapolis; a son, Corey Zarse (wife: Erin) of Lisle, IL; and two sisters, Karon Kelly (husband: Max) and Sharon Faker. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Kaylee, Bette, Bree and Liam.

Preceding him in death are his parents, wife Betty, and also a sister Marlene Wallace.

Graveside services with military rites to be held 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, December 6, 2017 in Chalmers Community Cemetery; Rev. David Doles and Rev. Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds to officiate.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Chalmers Volunteer Fire Dept. /First Response.
