Joyce (Partlow) Banta, 77, of Lafayette, passed away October 24, 2017 at St. Elizabeth East of Lafayette.

She was born September 7, 1940 in Tipton Co, IN to the late Charles O. and Anita L. (Baker) Partlow.

She moved to Lafayette as a small child with her 3 siblings. She was a 1958 graduate of Jefferson High School.

Her marriage was to Harry M. Smith on September 6, 1957 at First Church of God of Lafayette. They later divorced, but remained good friends. Joyce began working at Purdue University where she became house manager of the Hall of Music and Loeb Playhouse. She retired in 2003. She also worked at Lafayette Telephone Answering Service. She was with the telephone answering service for 19 years. This was the most rewarding work of her life as she met many people there who have remained friends for the rest of her life. She talked to many clients who recognized her voice but never met her in person. These people developed a great friendship and love for Joyce.

Joyce is survived by her sons, Michael M. (Rhonda) Smith, and Mark A. (Mary) Smith; 7 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Donna (Lee) Phelps of Lafayette, IN, Patricia (Al) Sargent of North Fort Meyers, FL; brother, Kenneth (Jackie) Partlow of Delphi, IN.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Joyce had wonderful neighbors who helped her over the last few months. The family thanks everyone who was able and willing to help when needed.

A  burial will be held at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 11 AM (EST).
