Velma I. Speer, 73, of Reynolds/Wolcott, passed away at 3:03 p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2017 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital of Lafayette.

She was born August 9, 1943 in White County, Indiana to the late Lloyd and Laura (Walters) Griffin and was a graduate of Wolcott High School.

Her marriage of 41 years was to Jerry Speer Sr. on June 6, 1976 in the First Baptist Church of Wolcott. He survives.

Mrs. Speer worked as a sprayer for RCA in Monticello and a press operator for Rubbermaid in Reynolds until their closing. She later retired from Omni Forge in Remington where she was a press operator.

Velma enjoyed gardening, word finds and crocheting. More than anything she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, Hannah and Olivia Billings.

Surviving with her husband Jerry is a son, Jerry Frank Speer Jr. and a daughter, Connie Jo Billings.

Preceding her in death with her parents is a son, Terry Alan Speer; her brothers, John and Adam Griffin and her sisters, Thelma Barrett, Mary Griffin and Jeanie Griffin.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Foster-Clapper Funeral Home of Wolcott. Funeral service 10 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2017 also at the funeral home; Rev. Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds to officiate. Interment to follow in Osborne Cemetery, Rensselaer.
