John “Jack” R. Datzman, 80, of Earl Park, passed away at 5:45 AM, Thursday, June 8, 2017 at St. Elizabeth East of Lafayette .

He was born January 16, 1937 in Watseka, IL to the late J. Richard and Lorene (Hardebeck) Datzman. He was a 1956 graduate of AJ Kent High School in Kentland.

His marriage was to Sue A. Hiestand in Kentland at the Christian Church. She preceded him in death in 2007.

Jack was a lifelong resident of Earl Park. He was an honorary member of the Earl Park American Legion, and a member of the Carpenters Union of Greencastle local 859. John worked for Morris Holley Construction in Kentland and Wirtz & Yates Construction for several years. He enjoyed spending his time outdoors, especially fishing and camping.

Surviving are two sons, Richard “Butch” (Jane) Datzman of Brownsburg, IN, and Jeffrey (Kathy) Datzman of Avon, IN; a sister, Leah (Dave) Castongia of Kentland; aunt, Cleona Datzman of Kentland. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, Jaclyn, Dallas, and Sarah; 1 great-granddaughter, Emma.

He is preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Friends may call from 9:30 AM (CST) until the time of Funeral Mass 11 AM (CST) Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Kentland. Fr. Robert Bernotas to officiate. Interment to follow in Fairlawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Jack's name to the American Legion Post #455 of Earl Park or the American Cancer Society.
