Charles E. Smith, 99, of Kentland, passed away at 11:40 AM Friday, February 3, 2017 at Iroquois Memorial Resident Home of Watseka, IL. He was born August 23, 1917 in Corydon, IN to the late Charles G. and Gertrude (Hottle) Smith.

His Marriage was to Arlene M. Lang on April 19, 1941 in Corydon, IN. She preceded him in death on October 22, 2016.

Charles was a farmer all of his life, first in southern Indiana, then relocating to Newton County, IN. He was a member of the Covenant Federated Church of Kentland.

He is survived by his children, Joy (Jeff) Pherson of Monticello, IN, Larry Edward Smith of Colorado, John W. Smith of Van Wert, OH, and James Charles (Dianne) Smith of Kentland; grandchildren, Kent (Kitty) Smith of Steubenville, OH, Karen (Jeff) Lautzenheiser of Van Wert, OH, Ashley (Daniel) Brown of Athens, OH, Megan (Vincent) Romano of Huntertown, IN, Dr. Kelly (Kreg) Fisher of Noblesville, IN, and Randy (Erica) Smith of Kentland, IN. He is also survived by 10 Great-grandchildren, Morgan, Daniel, AJ, Caleb, Charleigh, Harper, Riley, Elaina, Cora, and Claire.

He is preceded in death by his late parents and spouse.

Friends may call from 9:30 AM (CST) until the time of Funeral Service 11 AM (CST), Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Covenant Federated Church of Kentland (612 6th St. Kentland, IN 47951) Rev. Wayne Meyer to officiate. Interment to follow in Fairlawn Cemetery of Kentland.
