Lillian (Barrett) Newhard, 93, of Lafayette, passed away December 5, 2016 at Signature Healthcare of Lafayette, IN. She was born May 6, 1923 in Brookston, IN to the late Cyrus F. and Lesta (Criswell) Barrett. She was a 1941 graduate of Brookston High School.

Her marriage was to Stanley Quentin Newhard on February 13, 1942 at Trinity Methodist Church of Lafayette, IN. He preceded her in death on March 14, 2005.

Lilian was a member of the John Purdue Club, Lafayette County Club, Past Regional President of Federation of Women’s Clubs, Tourist Club, Eastern Star Hope Chapter #5, board of the Methodist Children’s Home, Trinity United Methodist Church for 77 years, Christians Woman Club, Home Hospital Gift Shop Chairman, Indiana Historical Society, and many more organizations. Lillian was known as a great club woman, she was a mentor and volunteer to many.

Lillian is survived by her children, Carol Anne Newhard (John E.) Cain of Sun Lakes, AZ, Nancy Faye Newhard Slaven of Cincinnati, OH, and Janet Marie Newhard Jones of Paducah, KY; grandchildren, Nancy Faye (Timothy J.) Slaven-Rody of Noblesville, IN, Michael “Scooter” Newhard Jones Paducah, KY, and Paul Matthew Jones “P.J.”(Stephanie) of Lexington, KY. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Ian Nathanal Rody, Cieran Archer Rody, Cason Mattes Rody, Laila Reese Jones, and Sawyer Kase Jones.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cyrus and Lesta Barrett, and husband, Stanley Newhard.

Friends may call from 12 (Noon) (EST) until the time of Funeral Service 2 PM (EST) Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. Rev. Dr. Lelan McReynolds and Pastor Linda Dolby to officiate. Interment to follow in Chalmers Cemetery, Chalmers, IN.
