Janet F. Lanning, 77, of Remington, passed away at 6:45 AM, May 26, 2016 at her residence surrounded by family. She was born April 15, 1939 in Rensselaer, IN to the late Hiram and Loretta (Shumaker) Alberts. Janet attended Rensselaer High School.

Her marriage was to John H. Lanning on March 21, 1957 in Crown Point, IN. He preceded her in death on August 11, 2015.

Janet enjoyed spending her time playing the card game Bunco, watching racing and the Chicago Cubs on television. Most of all, Janet loved spending time with her family.

Janet is survived by her three children, Roger (Zenda) Lanning, Joe Lanning, and John (Edwina) Guffey-Lanning; sisters, Betty Gadson and June Osborne. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Joshua Ramsey, Zachary Lanning, Jacob Ramsey, Jordan Ramsey, Sheanna Morgan, and Noah Guffey; great-grandchildren, Mackenzy Morgan, Owen Ramsey, and Maddison Lanning.

Preceding her in death along with her parents and husband are siblings, Lois Lowry, Delos Doc Alberts, Bud Alberts, Harold “Dean” Alberts, and Peggy Sue Alberts.

Friends may call from 4 PM (EST) until the time of Funeral Service 7 PM (EST) Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home or Remington. Ernie Randolph to officiate. Private family Interment at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in Janet’s name to the National Down Syndrome Society or CDC Resources.
