Mary Lydia Witzig( September 6, 1926 - November 2, 2015 )
Mary Lydia Witzig was born September 6, 1926 in Girard, OH to Joseph and Helen (Graf) Klotzle. The eldest of 5 children, she graduated from Girard in 1944. At the age of 17, Mary gave her life to Christ. She served her Lord faithfully for 72 years, remaining an active member of the Apostolic Christian Church of America. At age 21, Mary followed her family to Altadena, CA where she worked as a bank teller until marrying William E. Witzig in Maywood, CA on June 25, 1950. Mary and Bill were blessed with 58 years of marriage and 7 children: Linda (Ken) Cooper of Molalla, OR; William Witzig (Theresa) [dec.] ; Susan (Daniel) Yee, of Oxnard, CA; Shirley (John) Luthi-Cox of Washington, IL; Danny Witzig [dec.]; Rebecca (Robert) Lehman of Remington, IN and Frederick (Nancy) Witzig of Monmouth, IL. Mary is survived by her sisters Lois (Jim) Nevans and Edith (Daryle) Wieland. She is predeceased by her husband, William; brothers John and Theodore Klotzle; her sons William and Danny and her son-in-law Jeffrey Luthi. Mary devoted herself to her large family, making her home a place of love and warmth. She and Bill welcomed many visitors into their home through the years, especially newcomers to their small church. She was Grandma Witzig to her 29 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, hosting them for countless vacations and sleepovers at Grandma's. She passed on her love of reading to both her children and grandchildren, and we will always remember her warm reading voice. We will miss her homecooked meals, playing Scrabble and Mexican train dominos together, reading in her and Grandpa's big easy chairs and climbing over the wall behind their house. Mary passed away peacefully on November 2, 2015 at her residence in Remington, IN. Together, she and Bill leave a legacy of Christian faith and a closely knit family. Her kind, gentle spirit will remain in our hearts and memory. Friends may call from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm (EST), Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home of Remington, 9 West North Street, Remington. A Funeral Service will be held in Altadena, California on Saturday, November 7, 2015. Memorial contributions may be given in Mary's name to the Apostolic Christian Home for the Handicapped in Morton, Illinois. Share memories and online condolences at www.clapperfuneralservices.com
