Linda Jean Taulman

( February 7, 1950 - March 10, 2015 )

Linda Jean Taulman departed this world, bound for heaven, at the age of 65 on March 10, 2015. Linda and Duane, her husband, were married on June 17, 1972. They had two sons, Mark and Nathan. Her boys, along with her grandchildren, Morgan (8), Marek (7), and Mylee (3) (children of Mark and his wife Mandy) and Lane (9 months), (son of Nathan and his wife Erin) were sources of immense joy in her life. Linda was born on February 7, 1950 in Rensselaer, Indiana to Dossen E. and Jewell M. (Arnett) Byrd, who are both waiting for her in heaven. She had one sister, Nancy J. Spencer who proceeded her in death and one brother surviving, David E. Byrd. She graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1968, the same year she met her soulmate, Duane, on a triple date prior to a Rensselaer High School dance. They followed one another to Indiana State University where Linda earned a degree in Physical Education in 1972. Linda and Duane were married shortly after her graduation and moved to Tuscon, Arizona where Duane was a member of the United States Air Force. Linda continued her education by earning a Master's of Science Degree in Education at the University of Arizona in 1973. After spending one year in the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Linda and Duane moved back to Remington in 1974 to begin teaching. Linda began her teaching career at .North White High School teaching Physical Education (P.E.) in 1974. She also coached track, basketball, and volleyball. Linda excelled as head coach and lead her team to win the first volleyball sectional championship in North White history. Linda later transferred to St. Joseph College to teach in the P.E. department, oversee student teaching, and serve as head coach of the College's volleyball team. Linda was on the Tri-County School Board for nine years beginning in 1980. In 1989 she began teaching P.E. at Tri-County Elementary serving 20 years before her retirement in 2009. Toward the end of her career, she also served in several administrative roles. Linda was a teacher in every way and left her mark on the world through education. She would identify herself as a P.E. teacher, but those she taught knew she instructed more than exercise and sports. Linda was a professor of living life and serving God with passion. She taught those around her about living with character and pursuing God. She taught her students to love sports every time she blew her whistle to begin a game of dodgeball at the Remington and Wolcott elementary school. She taught her students to live passionately as she gave them high-fives on their way out of the gym. Along with the high-fives she passed her infectious, warm smile to every student in a way that made them know how much she cared about them. She gave herself to her students genuinely and left every student knowing, without a doubt, that she was their biggest fan. Linda's influence wasn't constrained by the sidelines in the gym. She was a welcoming face to everyone in her community whether she passed them in the aisles at Remington IGA, or sat next to them at the First Christian Church. She served others diligently in the name of Jesus and passed her faith to others by example in the most humble way. She was very active in her church. She was a passionate member of the Lafayette Great Banquet. She served on numerous teams and boards as a spiritual mentor and role model. She was active in Kiros Outside Prison Ministry as well as the Book Mobile. Linda was a diamond in this world-a perfect jewel. When love was directed at her, she reflected it in countless directions to everyone around her in the way only a perfect cut could. Linda was a very rare, one-of-a-kind person, who was and will continue to be treasured by those who knew her.
