Robert R. Stackhouse, 84, of Brookston died at 3:34 am, Friday, October 10, 2014 at St. Elizabeth East in Lafayette. He was born August 19, 1930 in Battle Ground to the late Dewey and Loucille (Nuff) Stackhouse. Robert attended Battle Ground High School. His marriage was to Berdena "Faye" White on January 25, 1955 in West Lafayette. She survives. Robert served in the U.S. Army for nine years and was honorably discharged in 1957. He was proud of his time spent in the Nevada desert testing the atomic bomb. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He worked on the Monon Railroad for 29 years retiring from CSX in 1988. Robert enjoyed spending his time doing anything outdoors including fishing and gardening. With his wife, he is survived by a daughter; Sherry Maxson of Brookston, a sister; Norma Crowell, grandchildren: Ryan, Eric, Trent, and Clay. Also surviving are 4 great-grandsons and 2 great-granddaughters. Friends may call from 10:00 am until time of funeral service at 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Brookston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Roberts name to the American Lung Association.
