Ramona D. McMillen, 84, of Lafayette, died at 8:40 am, Thursday, August 7, 2014 at St. Elizabeth - Central of Lafayette. She was born on October 10, 1929 in Indiana Harbor, IN to the late Herchel E. Newnum and Myrtle May (Brooks) Newnum and graduated from Williamsport High School in 1947. Her marriage was to Francis Martin McMillen in 1949 in Hammond and they had 9 children together. Ramona was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church of Lafayette. After raising her children, she went to work in various job in the service industry including being a chef, sorority house cook, and bartender. She enjoyed painting and drawing, knitting, sewing, playing the piano and organ, gardening, especially her rose bushes, and she loved telling jokes. She is survived by her children, Marlene Kucsan (husband: Frank) of Natalia, TX, David McMillen (wife: Linda) of Lafayette, Mark McMillen (wife: Kathleen) of Houston, TX, Kevin McMillen (wife: Sandra) of Sanford, FL, Mike McMillen of Lafayette, Jeff McMillen of Houston, T X, Kathy Cowey of Austin, TX, and Kelly McMillen of Indianapolis; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Preceding her in death with her parents are her daughter, Teresa Wagoner; 3 siblings, Jack Newnum, Nellie Odle, and Dixie Dugan; and 2 grandchildren, Justin and Lisa. Ramona was loved by many, lived a zestful life, was always the life of the party. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Friends may call from 12 pm (noon) until the time of Funeral Service at 2 pm, Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. Interment to follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, Lafayette.
