Ruth "Sally" W. Brooks, 90, of Lafayette, died at 12:07 am, Saturday, July 12, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Central of Lafayette. She was born on June 29, 1924 in Dayton, IN to the late Charles A. and Elda B. (Burkhalter) Bray and graduated from Dayton High School. Her marriage was to Donald Brooks on Nov. 29, 1942 in Stockwell and he preceded her in death on July 4, 2011. She worked as a cashier for Eisner/Jewel Grocery Store and after retirement, she worked at her son's, Tony, apartment building for 12 years. Ruth was an avid reader, and a member of the American Legion. She enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles, swimming at the YMCA, and she cherished time spent with her dear friends in her card club. Surviving are two sons, Randy Brooks of Port Charlotte, FL, and Ken Brooks (wife: Belita) of Lafayette; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, 3 brothers, 7 sisters, and a son, Tony Brooks. Her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends, were all blessed to have her in their lives and rejoiced in her love of sharing, giving, laughing, and living. Private family services will be held at a later date.
