Catherine R. Ellison, 90, of Monticello, formerly of Monon, died at 11:02 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2011 at IU Health White Memorial Hospital of Monticello. She was born March 4, 1921 in Hammond, Indiana to the late William and Catherine (Boss) Dittrich. Her first marriage was to Woodrow Kirk on October 19, 1940, they later divorced. She then married Charles Ellison on May 16, 1959, he preceded her in death on February 19, 1993. She then met her longtime companion, Raymond J. Maple, and he preceded her in death on March 7, 2006. She worked as a welder at Junior Toy in Hammond and as a bartender at Wally's in Calumet City and the Monon Eagles Auxiliary #2788, where she was also a member. Catherine enjoyed crocheting and working word puzzles. Surviving are two children Ricky Kirk of Huntington and Patsy Quinsenberry of Tullahoma, Tennessee. Also surviving is her dear friend, Shelby Judy of Monon. She was preceded in death by her son, Gerald Kirk and her brother, Walter Dittrich. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Clapper Family Funeral Home of Monon with Pastor Don Newman officiating. Interment to follow at Bedford Cemetery of Monon.
