Ray Dennis "Moose" Barnhart, 68, a lifelong resident of Monon, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2011 at his residence. He had been in failing health for a couple years. He was born February 23, 1943 in Monon to the late Mervin Ray and Elizabeth Catherine Florence (Johnson) Barnhart. He attended Monon High School. Mr. Barnhart was an honorably discharged member of the United States Army. His marriage was to Sarita Jo Bragg on September 10, 1964 in El Paso, Texas. She survives. He was a longtime member of the Monon Eagles Lodge. He retired after many years from the Indiana State Highway Department. Previously he worked for Kelly Construction in Reynolds. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, was a huge fan of John Wayne movies and was a Dale Earnhart NASCAR fan. Surviving with his wife is a son, Ralph "Eddy" Bragg (wife: Sondra) of Monticello; two daughters, Kelly Bragg of Monon and Kerry Strupp of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; a brother, Butch Barnhart (wife: Patty) of Lee and four sisters, Kathryn Young (husband: Rick) of Monon, Deb Duncan (companion: Bob Spear) of Monticello, Becky Madlung (husband: Randy) of Monticello and Bev Lowe (companion: Garry Blann) of Morocco. Ray loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Jessica, Jamie, Marty, Kyle, Brandon, Taylor, and Tyler and his great-grandchildren, Adam and Evie. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Clapper Family Funeral Home in Monon. Service there 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2011; Pastor Don Newman to officiate.
