Donald E. Brooks, 91, of Lafayette, died at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 4, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Central of Lafayette. He was born November 29, 1919 in Lafayette to the late Hiram and Loma Pearson Brooks. He graduated from Stockwell High School, and went on to serve in the United States Navy. His marriage was to Ruth "Sally" Bray on November 29, 1942 in Stockwell. She survives. He was a past business manager for Local 668 I.B.E.W. Donald was a member of the American Legion and 40 & 8. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Surviving with his wife are three sons, Tony Brooks and Ken Brooks (wife: Belita) of Lafayette, and Randy Brooks of Port Charlotte, FL, and two sisters, Thelma Morgan of Stockwell and Phyllis Vanderwhilen (husband: Cecil) of Cicero. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Private family services will be held at a later date.
