Prior to being shipped overseas in 1944, he was on a troop train headed to basic training that wrecked in Jellico, TN. killing 37 new recruits. After going overseas, he was in the Infantry as a Staff Sergeant and participated and was wounded in the hand and leg by mortar fire in the Battle of the Bulge. He was carried from the front lines to EVAC hospital by captured German soldiers. After his recovery, he was promoted to a Military Police post. After the war, he was stationed in Nuremburg, Germany where part of his duty was to guard and escort prisoners at the Nuremburg Trials. Frank was awarded the Infantry Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, German Occupation Medal, EAME (European) Theater Ribbon with 2 Stars, Purple Heart, Battle and Campaign Ribbons from Rhineland, and Central Europe.
