Dorothy B. Bower, 87, of Kentland, died at 9:45 a.m. Monday, January 31, 2011 at George Ade Memorial Health Care of Brook, Indiana. She was born February 14, 1923 in White County to the late Dollis and Lucille (Miller) Spear. She graduated from Chalmers High School in 1941, St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1944 and St. Mary's of the Woods in 1978. Her marriage was to Robert J. Bower on February 26, 1949 in Lafayette, Indiana. He survives. She lived in the Kentland area all of her life, and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Women's Club, Newton County DAR (Daughter of American Revolution)and Grant County Home Ec Club. She was employed by several area doctors from Kentland to Lafayette. She worked as the surgery supervisor at George Ade Hospital and taught nurses aid classes at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka. Surviving are two sons, James Bower (Vicki) of Zionsville, Michael Bower (Amelie) of New Iberia, Louisiana, three daughters, Mary Leisure (Robert) of Rochester Hills, Michigan, Jane Dilts of Winamac and Ann Huber (John) of Darien, Illinois. Also suriviving are twelve grandchildren, David Bower, Allison Bower, Jacob Leisure, Anne Marie Leisure, William Dilts (Emilie), Charlie Dilts, Kevin Bower, Elyse Bower, Irene Bower, Amelie Bower, Kevin Huber and Theresa Huber. She is preceded in death by one brother, Lloyd Spear. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. (CST) Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home of Kentland where a rosary service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. (CST) Friday, February 4, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Kentland with Father Robert Bernotas officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorials donations may be made in Dorothy's name to George Ade Memorial Health Care Center, 3623 East State Road 16, Brook IN 47922.
