Helen A. Wortman, 85, of Chalmers, died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at her residence. Born Nov. 6, 1924, in White County, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna Moosemiller Dwane. She graduated from Chalmers High School, and later graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. Her marriage was to Robert Wortman, and he preceded her in death on June 6, 1996. Mrs. Wortman worked as a nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette for many years. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Civics Club in Chalmers, and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing Alumni. She enjoyed traveling. Surviving are 2 nephews, Dave Thomas (wife: Marcia) and Steve Thomas (wife: Mary), both of Brookston; a great-niece, Laura Thompson and a great-nephew, Michael Thomas. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Thomas; and a brother. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at Hartzler Clapper Funeral Home in Brookston. Funeral Mass 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Reynolds, Fr. Fintan Cummings officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Reynolds. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Helen to St. Joseph Catholic Church or St. Elizabeth School of Nursing.
