Loraine Wood, 87, of Brookston, died at 1:50 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Whispering Pines Nursing Home in Monticello. She had been in failing health for the last six years. She was born October 14, 1921 to the late George and Maude (Hollingsworth) Bartley. Her marriage was to Mayford H. Wood on March 20, 1943 in Monticello. He died August 6, 1992. Mrs. Wood worked for the Indiana Veterans Home for 17 years retiring in 1996. Afterwards she was a homemaker. She was a longtime member of the Brookston Church of Christ. Surviving are two sons, Larry Wood of Brookston and Roger Wood (wife: Brenda) of Oklahoma; a daughter, Cathy Wood of Brookston and a brother, Jack Stevens (wife: Judy) of Medaryville. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. (noon) Friday, July 24, 2009 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home with graveside funeral rites immediately following in Brookston IOOF Cemetery. Preceding her in death are 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Loraine had lots of fun dressing up the concrete geese in her yard for passer's by.
