Robert “Bob” Garing, 83, of Kentland, passed away at 4:55 PM, Thursday November 29, 2018 at George Ade Memorial Health Care of Brook.

He was born February 14, 1935 in Fowler to the late Leo and Marie (Bessler) Garing. He was a 1953 graduate of A.J Kent High School. Bob served in the United States National Guard from 1953 to 1961. 

His marriage was to Barbara Datzman on January 21, 1956 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Earl Park; she survives. 

Bob grew up in the Chalmers area before moving to Kentland in 1951. He was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Kentland. Bob farmed for 37 years in the Kentland area, after retiring in 2001 he and Barb moved into town. 

Bob enjoyed spending his time watching basketball especially the Chicago Bulls, he also enjoyed watching game shows on television. 

Surviving along with his wife are daughters, Christine (husband: Dan) Storm of Donovan, IL, Jan (husband: Kenny) Vanderwall, and a son, Jason (wife: Donna) Garing of Kentland. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Brothers, Albert “Buster” (wife: Helen) Garing, Francis (wife: Phyllis) Garing, and Richard “Dick” Garing. Sisters, Marsha (husband: Gene) Miiller, Marlene Sondgerath, and a Brother-in-law, Wayne Mathew. 

Preceding him in death along with his parents are a brother, Harry Garing; sister, Marilyn Mathew; brother-in-law, Tom Sondgerath, and a sister-in-law, Louise Garing.

Friends may call from 4-7 PM (CST) Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home of Kentland. Funeral Mass 11 AM (CST) Monday, December 3, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Kentland. Fr. Robert Bertonas to officiate. Interment to follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to the American Cancer Society or the Kentland Fire Department.
