Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home - Brookston

Guy N. Brown

( June 14, 1938 - December 21, 2020 )

Pastor Guy N. Brown, 82, of Lafayette, passed away at 5:45 a.m. Monday, December 21, 2020 at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.

Guy was born June 14, 1938 in Bristol, Tennessee to the late Eugene B. Brown Jr. & Claudia E. (Woodard) Brown.  Guy graduated from Bristol High School in 1957 (Bristol, TN) and earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1962 from Milligan College (Johnson City, TN). He later attended Lincoln Christian Seminary (Lincoln, IL) and Emmanuel School of Religion (Johnson, TN).

Guy married the love of his life, Laura Nelle Hamilton, on August 13, 1961 in Humboldt, TN at the Central Avenue Christian Church.  The wife of a preacher, Laura faithfully followed Guy throughout the years as the couple served their Lord and their friends at the churches Guy would pastor.  Laura preceded him in death on July 26, 2014.

Pastor Brown served at Christian churches in Bristol, TN, Pearl, IL and Williamsburg, KY before moving to Lafayette where he served as Pastor for the Linnwood Church of Christ for 35 years.  After retiring, Guy felt the Lord’s call to serve again at the Palestine Christian Church of Wolcott, IN; he truly valued the friendships made and the time spent at Palestine Church.

Guy’s commitment to the Lord was evident to all that knew him.  Many Christmas and family vacations were cut short because someone in his church flock needed him.  Guy was always willing to go visit someone regardless of how long or short of a time he knew them.  He shared God’s grace to everyone including those who had made mistakes or whose life was off track.  Outside of his family, his heart truly was always with the church.

Guy was a “people person” and his infectious smile and laugh made you an instant friend.  Those that knew him well knew his witty sense of humor and affinity for a good joke.  Guy was always willing to tell an umpire or referee how he felt about a call, especially when it involved his grandchildren.

When not serving the church, Guy enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, reading and spending time with his family.

Surviving is a daughter, Elizabeth Jane Turner (husband: Bret) of Brookston; two sons, James Barry Brown (wife: Angela) and Chad N. Brown (wife: Jennifer) both of Plainfield; grandchildren, Kyle Turner (wife: Amy), Cortney Henry (husband: Norman), Kayla Wilson (husband: Brandon), Kinsey Blumling, Cody Turner, Nathan Brown, Brandon Brown (wife: Elisabeth), Karisa Brown, Tyler Brown, Joy Brown, Aslan Brown, Alexander Brown, and Levi Brown.  Also surviving are his 9 great-grandchildren with two on the way.

Preceding him in death with his parents and wife is a brother, Bill Brown.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. for Guy’s Palestine Christian Church family and then continue from 4-6 p.m. for friends and family, Monday, December 28, 2020 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home (101 West 4th Street  Brookston, IN).

A private family funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2020 also at the Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home; his good friend, Pastor Jim Boudouris will officiate.  The funeral service will be live streamed and can be viewed by visiting https://my.gather.app/remember/guy-brown  A procession and burial will follow in Palestine Cemetery, Wolcott, IN.

In lieu of flowers, it was Guy’s wish that donations be made to the Palestine Christian Church of Wolcott.
