Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home - Kentland
Audrey Eileen East( April 2, 1932 - November 14, 2021 ) Audrey Eileen Mooy East passed away peacefully Monday, 14 November 2021, at the George Ade Center in Brook, Indiana. She was born 2 April 1932 in Reynolds, Indiana, to Mary Jane Nightingale Mooy and Floyd Evert Mooy. Audrey graduated from Earl Park High School, then Purdue University with Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in Home Economics. She married Norman on 1 March 1959. She taught Home Ec in Attica, Kentland, and Morocco. One of the highlights of her college years was a trip Audrey took with the International Farm Youth Exchange (IFYE) to Australia representing America and 4-H to rural Australian families. The memories and lifelong friendships made on that trip were among some of her fondest treasures. Audrey and Norman were a terrific team who worked hard farming, raising their family, and serving their church and community. They are survived by their three children: Linda (B.J.) Herbison, Bolton, Massachusetts; Wayne (Lori) East, Carthage, Missouri; and David East (Liz Gehr), Creve Coeur, Missouri. Audrey delighted in her four grandsons: Robert Herbison; Joshua (Rachael) Herbison; Ken Herbison; and Matthew East. And she loved babies, so great-grandson Eric (Ken) and great-granddaughter Rue (Joshua and Rachael) were a special joy for Audrey. Audrey was extremely generous with her extraordinary cooking and sewing skills. She loved few things more than teaching those skills, making things for others, and judging at fairs and contests. She was also the driving force behind East Realty in Illinois and Indiana for several years. She was a member of a variety of Home Ec, sewing, and quilting clubs, most notably the Grant II Home Ec Club for 60 years. She was an active member and past president of the Knot Just Quilters group in Sheldon, Illinois. She was also a member of the Covenant Federated Christian Church in Kentland. Audrey is predeceased by her husband, Norman, and her brother, Olin Mooy (survived by Mary Ellen). She is survived by her brother, Bruce Mooy (Kay), El Paso, Texas; and all three children, four grandsons, and two great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. (CST) until the time of funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, 20 November at the Covenant Federated Christian Church, 612 6th Street, Kentland, Indiana. Reverend Wayne Meyer will officiate. Following interment in Fairlawn Cemetery there will be a reception at the church at 4:00 p.m. Audrey’s life may be commemorated with a gift to the International Farm Youth Exchange program in Audrey’s name.
