David H. Nelson, 72, of Brookston, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Indiana University Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born February 17, 1950 in Lafayette to the late Harold D. and Mary H. (Wolff) Nelson.

David was a 1968 graduate of Battle Ground High School. His marriage was to Melissa Brown on May 23, 1998 in Brookston and she survives.

David worked as an electrician in the Lafayette area at local factories and eventually would retire from Alcoa. He enjoyed playing his guitar, golfing, bowling, watching the Raiders and Cubs, playing pool, and riding his Harley-Davidson. David was an avid sports fan, active in coaching little league baseball and enjoyed playing in softball leagues in his younger years. Above all, David cherished time spent with his family especially his beloved dog, Laredo.

Surviving along with his wife Melissa, are their children, Scott (Maria) Nelson of Columbia, SC, Diana (David) Winningham of Birmingham, AL, David Harold (Sheralyn) Nelson Jr. of Villa Rica, GA, Shalana Nelson of Campbellsville, KY; step-son, Casey (Brooke) Norwood of Perry, OH. Brother, Richard Nelson of Mississippi, 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. David is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Friends may call from 4-8 PM Monday, April 11, 2022 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. Funeral Service 12 PM Tuesday, April 12, 2022 also at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Brookston IOOF Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Lelan McReynolds to officiate.
