( December 10, 1930 - April 30, 2022 )

Mary A. Kruger, 91, of Round Grove, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022 at The Legacy at Waterford Place in Kokomo.

Mary was born on December 10, 1930 in Lafayette, IN, to the late Clyde and Bessie (Atkinson) Hackley and was a graduate of Pine Township High School.

While working at the Remington Telephone Company Mary met Ralph Kruger running the Remington Theater. They fell in love and married on November 21, 1953 at the Hackley/Atkinson Homestead in Benton County.

Mary loved raising her five children. She was involved as a 4-H Leader, taught Sunday/Bible School and chaperoned many band and athletic events. She enjoyed time with each of her children and their friends especially driving the “Round Grove Taxi”.

Mary was known for gardening, beautiful flower beds, canning fruits and vegetables, and her pickles were enjoyed especially when bailing hay and straw. Ralph and Mary together sang in a quartet, raised livestock, hunted mushrooms, played pinochle, went on two week camping trips covering most of the 50 states (chaperoned by Aunt Bev), and took annual Kentucky Lake family trips. Mary could write the most beautiful poems and enjoyed China Painting. She was a member of the MB Club and Mt. Gilboa United Methodist Church in Fowler.

Surviving are five children, Tim (Lisa) Kruger of Noblesville, Joyce (Don) Yost of Windfall, Wayne (Tina) Kruger of Monticello, Lisa Kruger of Fishers and Stephanie (Brad) Johnson of Greentown. She is also survived by her siblings, Glenora Armold of Fowler, Beverly Hackley of Fowler and James (Laura) Hackley of Fowler; and seven grandchildren, Nicole (Mitch) Wolfe, Matt Kruger, Luke Kruger (Alexa Zeller), Bryce (Azra) Kruger, Paul Yost (Liz Smith), Zachary and Megan Johnson; and three great-grandchildren, Max, Jackson, and Emma; and several nieces and nephews; and family friend Michelle Kunkel of Fishers.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband and her siblings Deloris Pampel, Phyllis Gilbert, and Robert Hackley.
