Lawrence R. Smith, 82, of Brookston, passed away at 3:30 AM on Monday, May 23, 2022 at IU Health Arnett Hospital of Lafayette.

He was born January 19, 1940 in Darwin, IL to the late Lawrence and Irene (Trueblood) Smith. Lawrence was a 1958 graduate of Marshall High School of Illinois.

His marriage was to Janet S. Verhey on December 26, 1995 in Lafayette, IN; she survives.

Lawrence worked as a painter for Purdue University for 18 years retiring in 2003. He enjoyed mowing, working on the yard, and raising goats.

Surviving along with his wife are their children, Richard Smith of Williamsport, IN, Greg (Marietta) Smith of Otterbein, IN, Deea (Roy) Brumley of Williamsport, IN, Chad Smith of Rensselaer, IN, Michelle Blazier of Clarks Hill, IN, Emily Haddock of Attica, IN, and Amy Jordan of West Lafayette, IN. Also surviving is one sister, Carolyn Ubanks of Illinois and several grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Irene Smith.

Per his wishes, no funeral services will be held at this time.
