John Joseph Keating Jr., 69, of greater Monon, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at his home. He was born September 18, 1952 in Chicago, IL to the late John Sr. and Concetta (Spangola) Keating.  

John was a graduate of De La Salle High School and attended St. Xavier University, both of Chicago. His marriage of 47 years was to the love of his life, Kathleen Barker on August 31, 1974 at Wayside Community Chapel of Palos Park, IL.  

John was a parishioner of Maranatha Chapel in Evergreen Park, IL. He would later become a member of Monon Community Church, serving as treasurer. John was also a member of the Boardgame Players Association.  

John was employed with Edmar Foods of Chicago for 30 years as store manager. He later would oversee management for Big Lots at both the Lafayette and Logansport locations.  Most recently, John enjoyed working with White County Council on Aging in Monticello.  

John cherished every single second spent with his family, especially his 7 children and 11 grandchildren. He was also a foster dad to 21 children over a three year period. He enjoyed playing board games, fishing, golfing, and was a war history enthusiast.  John’s quick wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed.  

Surviving along with his wife Kathy are their children, Erin (husband: Keith) Keating Kurwicki, Thomas (wife: Jenni) Keating, Kelly Keating, Rebecca (husband: Sean) Keating McGahan, Meghan (husband: Michael) Keating Carroll, Timothy (fiancé: Austin Bazilio) Keating, and Shannon (fiancé: Michael Lee) Keating. Grandchildren, Kaylee, Hunter, Zane, Marshall, Boaz, Truett, Louiza, Elias, Rhodes, Cohen, and Iver. Sibling, Patrick (wife: Annette) Keating; nieces and nephew, Jennifer Moore, Joey Keating, and Gina Martin. John is also survived by two dear friends, Joel Tamburo and Dave Olsen.  

Preceding him in death along with his parents is his sister, Johanna Martin.  

Friends may call from 10 AM (EDT) until the time of Funeral Service 1 PM (EDT) Friday, July 1, 2022 at Monon Community Church (500 East Broadway Street, Monon, IN 47959). Pastor Don Newman to officiate, along with John’s son, Tom Keating. Interment to follow in Monon Chapel Cemetery.  

Memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to Monon Community Church.
