Mary M. Johns, 76, of Monticello (Buffalo area), Indiana, passed away at 11:38 p.m., Saturday, December 3, 2022, at the Mulberry Health Retirement Center of Mullberry, Indiana, with her daughter, Jodi, by her side.

She was born on Monday, December 24, 1945, in Shawano, Wisconsin, to the late August and Margaret (Landwehr) Hackl.

On June 17, 1983, at the Monticello United Methodist Church of Monticello, Indiana, she married Jerry W. Johns; he passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2015. 
 
 
Mary had lived in the Monticello, Indiana, area since 1979. 

 

A Graveside Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 10, 2022, at the Hughes Cemetery of rural Monticello, Indiana, with Rev. Keith Raderstorf officiating.

Biographical Information:
   Mary graduated from Xavier Catholic High School of Appleton, Wisconsin, class of 1964.  Following graduation, she married Nicholas "Nick" Hietpas and they settled in Appleton, Wisconsin, and had two children, Bryan and Jodi.  In 1979, Mary and her children, moved to Monticello, Indiana, where she met and married Jerry W. Johns.  They were married for thirty - two years until his passing in 2015.  Mary worked at the White County, Indiana, jail for eight years as a Deputy and Matron for the prisoners from 1980 to 1988 during Jerry's time as Sheriff of White County, Indiana. Afterwards, Mary became a Real Estate Sales Associate until her retirement.  Mary loved riding horses (especially her horse Benny), water skiing, snow skiing, traveling, sun- bathing, and her beloved dog.
