William H. Hurt, 83, of Kentland, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at George Ade Memorial Healthcare in Brook.

  Bill was born May 22, 1939 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Marion and Maggie (Fielden) Hurt.  Bill was a 1957 graduate of Whiting High School.

  Mr. Hurt was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy and was stationed in Hawaii, Japan and Alaska.

  His marriage of 53 years was to Barbara Atchley on February 15, 1969, in Hammond, Indiana; she survives.

  Bill worked for 16 years at Bonnell Industries.  Bill was a natural with people and enjoyed the interaction with friends and guests while Bartending at the Mainstreet Lounge and Down Town Lounge both of Kentland. 

  Mr. Hurt was a member of the Kentland American Legion Post #23 and VFW of Owensboro, Kentucky.

  Bill was a huge sports fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bear and enjoyed college basketball and football.  He also enjoyed spending time outdoors working with his flowers and garden.  Above all, Bill loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren.

  Surviving with his wife is a son, Steven Stately Hurt of Virginia and three daughters, Belinda Hurt of Kentland, Janice Hurt (Steve) of Kentland and April Hurt of Effingham, Illinois; a sister, Maybeth Smith of Owensboro, Kentucky and a brother, Thomas Hurt of Evansville, Indiana.  Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

  Preceding him in death with his parents is a brother, James Hurt; and a granddaughter, Brianne Martin.

  Friends may call from 2p.m. until the time of funeral service at 3 p.m. (CST) Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home of Kentland.

  Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the charity of the donor’s choice.
