Michael J. Whitcomb, 50, of Remington, passed away at 2:07 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Indiana University Arnett Hospital in Lafayette after a courageous battle with cancer since November 2021.

Mike was born June 30, 1972 in Winamac, Indiana to the late Charles and Loretta (Albright) Whitcomb.  He was a 1991 graduate of St. Anne Community High School in St. Anne, Illinois.

Mike’s marriage of 26 years was to Tinika M. Embery on September 6, 1996 in Hopkins Park, Illinois; she survives.

Mike was brave, loving, kind and patient.  Mike loved watching his kid’s play sports and was an avid Tri-County High School fan.  To him, spending time with family and his grandson was the most important thing.  He loved people and would help anybody in need.  He and Tinika enjoyed playing cards with their good friends, the Benners and spending time with their neighbors.  Mike valued time with his best friends, whom he considered brothers, Zack Lanning and Ryan Oberlander.  Mike was a great mechanic who liked working on cars, he also enjoyed fishing and recently, learned to use YouTube.

Mike had a great work ethic, hardly ever missing a day.  Most recently, he worked for Clarks Cutting Edge in Remington.  Prior to that he worked over 20 years for Omni Forge of Remington.  Mike also enjoyed working for Jerry at the Remington Junk Yard on weekends off or as needed.

Surviving with his wife Tinika are his children, Harry L. Pickens and Kimberly Wilkens both of Lafayette and their daughter, Odyssey Whitcomb of Remington.  Mike cherished his grandson, Jeremiah Austin Pickens.

Also surviving are his siblings, Kenny Whitcomb (Susan) of Bourbonnais, IL, Peggy Wagner of Effingham, IL, Christopher Whitcomb (Dawn) of Bourbonnais and Edith Garrett (Kevin) of Edgewood, IL. Mike is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death with his parents is his mother-in-law, Denise Embery; a sister, Flossie Lazo; a brother, Charles “Butch” Whitcomb; and a nephew, Jason Garrett.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home of Remington.  Interment to follow in Remington Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Michael J. Whitcomb Memorial Fund to be used for a later good in his name.
