Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home - Remington
Floyd L. Legler( November 17, 1935 - March 9, 2023 ) Floyd Leroy Legler, 87, of Remington, IN, died March 9, 2023. Floyd was born in East Chicago, IN, on November 17, 1935, to David and Eva (Stoll) Legler. The family moved to Remington in 1946. He graduated from Remington High School in 1953. He married Janet Peck on August 5, 1956. Janet preceded him in death, as did two infant daughters. Together they raised three children: Lori (John) Overbeck, Mark (Chris) Legler, and Julie (Jim) Elson. They have 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Floyd was preceded in death by two brothers, Don Legler and Dale Legler, and two sisters, Vera Sutter and Linda Gretencord. Floyd married Martha Crouse Alspaugh on August 7, 1998. Martha survives, as do her children, Steve Alspaugh, Scott Alspaugh, and Sheryl Howard and their families. Floyd ran the Pure Oil Truckstop in Remington with his dad in the 1950’s and 60’s. He formed L&M Trucking in 1962, and Remington Freight Lines in 1972, which he ran until 2002. He came to faith in Jesus Christ in 1974 at the age of 39. His words and actions exhibited that faith for the rest of his life. It is because of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and his faith in that sacrifice that we have confidence that Floyd is in Heaven with our Lord now. Throughout his life, Floyd contributed to many philanthropic projects both locally and nationally and contributed to the careers of many people who were mentored through his businesses. He had a passion for local history, for Carpenter Creek and for helping others. Funeral services will be at Stitz Clapper Funeral Home in Remington on Saturday, March 18, 2023 with visitation from 10:30 to 12:30 Eastern time, and the funeral service at 12:30. Burial will be private at Remington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Birthright of Rensselaer.
