David Shireley, 91, died March 23 while in hospice care.  David grew up in Morocco, IN and was a 1949 graduate of Morocco High School.   He married Janet Smith of rural Battle Ground on October 10, 1952.  They were married nearly 70 years prior to Janet’s death in January 2022.  Shortly after marriage, David entered the US Army and was stationed in Germany.  Upon completing his military enlistment, David worked at National Homes Corp for more than 30 years and then was a custodian at Klondike Middle School until his retirement.

David was a member of Schuyler Wesleyan Church, enjoyed playing euchre, woodworking and was an avid fisherman and gardener under Janet’s supervision.  He was a lifelong Yankee fan and a staunch Purdue supporter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Fred Shireley and sisters Louise Williams, Gladys Light and Evelyn Burkle.  He is survived by his son, Larry (Peggy), grandson David of Bismarck, ND and loving niece, Michelle Oliphant Biggs of West Lafayette, IN.  The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Tony Ramirez for the devotion and loving care he provided David the past 11 months.

Friends may call from  10 AM (EDT) until the time of Funeral Service 12 PM (EDT) Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. Interment to follow in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.
