Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home - Remington

Lloyd E. Frey

( July 18, 1928 - August 3, 2023 )

Lloyd Edward Frey finished his race here on earth and entered into the loving arms of his Father on Thursday, August 3rd, at 2:30 in the afternoon, surrounded by his family.
Lloyd was born on July 18th, 1928, one of nine children born to Lillian and Edward Frey in Remington, Indiana. In high school, he played basketball and ran track, holding one of the longest track records at Remington High School. After high school, Lloyd served in the US Army, and was stationed in Chicago, Illinois. He loved his country, which was evident every time he sang the National Anthem.
While in Chicago, Lloyd met Thelma Bauer at the Apostolic Christian Church and was immediately and forever smitten. Their marriage of 70 years was a testament to the love and commitment they shared. Lloyd became an avid student of the Bible and even traveled to Israel in 1971. His favorite bible verse was Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus.” Everywhere he went, he shared about God’s great love. And to all of you reading this today, he would want you to know that the way of hope and salvation is believing in and accepting Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.
Lloyd was a devoted father to his 5 children and a cherished grandfather to his 12 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Lloyd and Thelma lived, farmed, and raised their family in Remington for nearly a century. In addition to his love of his family and farming, Lloyd loved singing, camping, the Cubs, and Purdue basketball…until 2017, when they relocated to Holland, Michigan, and he became a Michigan State fan!

Lloyd is survived by his wife Thelma and his five children, Joy Waltmire (Don) of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, Julee Wilke (Mark) of Zeeland, Michigan, Ruth Gerali (David) of Barrington, Illinois, Ronald Frey of Chicago, Illinois and John Frey (Deanna) of Remington; a brother, Wally Frey (Adeline) of West Lafayette, and a sister, Marge Stoller of Ft Wayne.

Preceding him in death with his parents are his six sisters, Velma, Norma, Mabel, Evelyn, Lois and Carolyn.

The family invites you to join them for a celebration of life service on Saturday, August 12, 2023, with visitation from 10 a.m. (EST) until the time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. (EST) at the Remington Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship Hall (16448 South US Highway 231).  Interment to follow in Remington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tri-County Chapter of the FFA.
