Johnny “Joe” Lanning, 61, of Remington, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2023, at the Rensselaer Care Center. He was born October 24, 1961, in Round Grove (White County), IN to the late John H. and Janet (Alberts) Lanning. Joe was a graduate of Tri-County High School.

Joe was a member of the Special Olympics for many years at the state level. Joe spent 43 years attending CDC Resources in Rensselaer where he met many friends and enjoyed spending time in the community. He loved the Chicago Cubs, bowling, spending time boating, and camping, and enjoyed golf cart rides with family. Joe also loved listening to Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, and Johnny Cash. Joe spent numerous hours watching his favorite shows, Hee Haw and The Golden Girls.

He is survived by brothers, Roger (Zenda) Lanning of Remington and John (Edwina) Guffey of Francesville. Nephews, Zachary (Jaclyn) Lanning of Remington, Noah Guffey, and Joshua, Jacob, and Jordan Ramsey; one niece, Sheanna (Ryan) Stouder. Joe is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and great-niece, Maddison.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM (EDT) Monday, August 28, 2023, at Remington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s name to the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS).
