Robert E. "Bob" Speer, 86, of Monticello (Patton), Indiana, died on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at 10:00 p.m. in the IU Health Arnett Hospital.

Bob was born on Wednesday, August 4, 1937, in Idaville, Indiana to Bertice Eugene and Edith Elana (Tuell) Speer. They both preceded him in death.

On Saturday, August 16, 1958, in the Wolcott Christian Church in Wolcott, Indiana, he married Mary L. Nichols. She died on Thursday, June 2, 2022.

Bob was a 1956 graduate of the Monticello High School.  He served in the Indiana National Guard for six years. Bob worked for Cheeseborough Ponds of Monticello for over 29 years. He also worked at Peters Revington in Delphi, Indiana for 9 years. Bob had worked and raised livestock on the family farm for most of his life.  He was a gold member of the Monticello F.O.E. Fraternal Order of Eagles #2570 of Monticello, Indiana. 

Bob is survived by his two sons, Phillip "Phil" Speer of Monticello, Indiana and John Speer of Remington, Indiana, special friend, Amy (husband Les) Thurston of Illinois. 

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bertice E. and Edith E. (Tuell) Speer, wife, Mary L. Speer, sisters, Patricia Alpha and Marleen Sheidler-Dalton, brother, Charles "Butch" Speer

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023, from 12:00 (noon) until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the Miller - Rocka Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana.

Celebration of life service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023, at the Miller - Rocka Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana with Rev. Ian McMillan of the First Baptist Church of Monticello.

Burial will follow in the Yeoman Cemetery of Yeoman, Indiana.
