Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home - Remington
Robert Myron Meents( June 23, 1944 - December 26, 2023 ) Robert Myron Meents, 79, of Remington, passed away at his home on December 26, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. Bob was born June 23, 1944, in Rensselaer, Indiana to the late Myron J. and Esther P. (Lucterhand) Meents. Bob was a 1962 graduate of Remington High School and then attended Purdue University in the 8-week agriculture short course taught by Dean Butz. Bob was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Air Force. He enlisted in 1964 and served as a fuel supply man for airplanes in Anchorage Alaska during the Vietnam War. He was discharged in 1968. Bob’s love for the military and the US flag continued to this day through his membership in the Remington American Legion Post #280; where he would often be found serving in the funeral honor guard firing squad. Upon returning to Indiana, Bob was a surveyor during the construction of I65 for several years. Afterwards, Bob joined Silver Lane Hybrids in Remington working as a seedsman in production for 43 years until retiring. Bob was an avid fisherman including ponds, lakes, the Great Lakes and ice fishing – if you could cast a line he was there. Bob’s witty personality lent itself to making many friends. It might be said he could be a “little politically opinionated” sometimes. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews and their children; he loved them all very much. Bob was a long-time member of the Remington United Methodist Church and the Remington Masonic Lodge #351. Surviving are his two brothers, Bruce Meents (Judy) of North Port, FL and John Meents (Peg) of Jenera, OH; a brother-in-law, Thomas Dickerson of Evansville, IN and his nieces and nephews; Stephanie Heim (Neil) of North Port, FL, Arielle Meents of North Port, FL, Jay Meents (Cassandra) of Waterville, OH, MaeLyda Fagan (Pete) of St. Louis, MO, Emily Greer (Adam) of Findlay, OH, Thomas Dickerson (Michelle) of Tulalip, WA and Amy Jo Jolley (Jeff) of Carmi, IL. Also surviving are many great-nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death with his parents is a sister, Mary E. Dickerson. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. (EST) Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at the Remington United Methodist Church and also from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 10 a.m. (EST) Wednesday, January 3, 2024, also at the church; Rev. Roberta Cook to officiate. Interment to follow in the Remington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob’s name may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or the Remington United Methodist Church. Share memories and online condolences at www.clapperfuneralservices.com
