Barbara Jean (Winger) Terry, 88, of Goodland, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at her home. She was born on a farm near Goodland, Indiana on July 21, 1936 to the late William and Hilda (Mabbitt) Winger.  She joined an older sister, Lorraine, to complete the family.

She attended Remington, Indiana schools graduating with the class of 1954 as Valedictorian.  Barb attended Cosmetology School and worked for the Lu Mac Beauty Shop in Remington for several years.

She married James (Jim) Terry on January 11, 1958 and they are the parents of two children, Tim and Tina.  The family was active in the Presbyterian Church and in 1989 the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches merged to become the Goodland Community Church.  She served in many capacities within the Church including teaching Sunday School. She and Jim were youth advisors for over 20 years. She served as Church Treasurer and was Chairman of the Board for 9 1/2 years. At the time of her death she was a member of the Alamo Christian Church which in recent years had become dear to her heart.

Barb joined the Order of the Eastern Star in November, 1954 in the Goodland Chapter.  She and Jim served as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron of Goodland Chapter in 1963.  She was selected as District Deputy in 1967 and as Grand Martha in 1970.  In 1974-75 she served as Worthy Grand Matron.  She was given a Committee appointment in the General Grand Chapter in 1988.  In 2001 she was elected Grand Treasurer and served in that capacity until her retirement in 2020.

Traveling the state of Indiana and making many friends was one of the most precious times in her life as it was something Jim could enjoy with her.  

She was an avid reader and loved to cook, especially baking pies.  The couple loved to travel and loved the live theatre.  Barb loved to crochet and especially enjoyed making items to give to family and friends.  Her greatest joy was her family and having them gather for special occasions.

Her favorite scripture was Matthew 17:20 and she lived her life with this belief that with God Nothing is Impossible.

Barb is survived by her son Tim Terry (Debbie) of Carol Stream Illinois and daughter Tina of Goodland Indiana.

Friends may call from 3:00 PM (EST) until the time of Funeral Service 5:00 PM (EST) Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home of Remington. Rev. Kevin Howey to officiate. 

Memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s name to the American Heart Association.
