Barbara E. Reed, 88, of Monon, passed away at 5:00 a.m. Sunday, December 1, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

  Barbara was born June 18, 1936, in Lafayette to the late Ralph & Wilma (Dyer) Ford of Brookston.  She grew up in Brookston and was a 1954 graduate of Brookston High School.

  While working at the canning factory in Brookston, she would meet the love of her life and future husband, William “Bill” Reed; the couple were married on September 24, 1955.

  Barbara worked for many years at RCA in Monticello until retiring when the factory closed.  

  She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and crocheting.  Barbara loved cooking and baking for her family during the holidays, especially Christmas.  Barbara also enjoyed watching the Chicago Bulls with her husband, Bill and rooting for her favorite NASCAR drivers.  She had a wonderful sassy sense of humor and was always fun loving and happy.  Barbara loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

  Surviving are her children, Vickie Maple of Monon, Bonnie Cain (Ed) of Francesville, Bill Reed of Lafayette and Tim Reed of Logansport as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

  Preceding her in death with her parents is a daughter, Mary Sholes; a son, Robert Reed; a son-in-law, Ron Maple; a granddaughter, Brittney Reed; two grandsons, Jason Priest and Cory Reed; and two brothers, Gordon and Herbert Ford.

 

A celebration of Barbara’s life is being planned for warmer weather in the Spring of 2025.
