Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home - Remington
Phyllis Byroad( June 4, 1934 - April 4, 2025 ) Phyllis Byroad, formerly of Remington, Indiana, passed away peacefully on April 4th, 2025, in Parker, Colorado. She was 90 years old. Born on June 4th, 1934, in Goodland, Indiana, to Andrew and Henrietta (Budde) Medley, Phyllis was a community-minded person who lived a full and active life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Phyllis graduated from Remington High School in 1952, staying an active alumnus for many years. She married her high school sweetheart, Ed Byroad, on December 6th, 1953, in Remington where they lived all their life until she moved to Colorado to be close to her daughter, Sue. As a family, they farmed, raised cattle and sheep and were active in 4-H for many years, continuing the tradition with their grandsons. They had a love of travel and a knack for finding the fun in every experience. Phyllis attended the United Methodist Church in Remington and was an Honorary Retired Member of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority in Remington, where she chaired various events and attended the national conventions. Phyllis started her career in banking in 1953 and was a constant presence for the community through many changes and mergers over the years. She held several positions, ranging from teller, to trust officer and Vice President. Her favorite position was the Senior Champs Director with Bank One, where she planned and coordinated trips throughout the United States and around the world. In addition to her love for travel, Phyllis was an avid reader. In her retirement from banking in 2004, she went on to work at the Remington Public Library. While she was no longer taking trips to new destinations, she was still able to connect people with information, cultures, and ideas through her love of books. Phyllis had a keen eye for antiques and was quite the collector. Many people in the community will remember Phyllis for her love of decorating. While she and Ed lived on their farm, the end of the lane could always be counted on to delight passers-by with creative displays for every holiday. Her front porch was always done up and at Christmas time you would find a decorated tree in every room. She could give Macy’s window displays a run for their money! Beyond her career and hobbies, Phyllis was a blue-ribbon grandmother. She loved Ryan and CJ without limit and rarely missed an event, from little league games to college tournaments, graduations, weddings and beyond. She was immensely proud of her four great-grandchildren and spent hours listening to them share their lives with her. She made them feel as though they were the most interesting children in the world. Phyllis was beloved and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her loving daughter, Sue Robinson, and her husband, Ron; her grandchildren, Ryan Robinson (Melissa) of Elbert, Colorado, and CJ Robinson (Elaina) of Seattle, Washington; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Tyler and Cole Robinson of Elbert, and Molly and Madeline Robinson of Seattle. She also leaves behind her siblings, Bill Medley and Bob Medley (Libby), and many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Ed Byroad, who passed away in 2001, as well as her parents, Andrew and Henrietta Medley, and her sister-in-law, Alice Medley. Friends may call from 10 AM (EST) until the time of the funeral services at 12 PM (EST) on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at the Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home in Remington, Indiana, with a graveside service to follow at the Remington Cemetery.
