Betty Whistler

( October 10, 1939 - March 14, 2026 )

Betty Sue Whistler, 86, of Monticello, passed away peacefully at 7:41 a.m. on March 14, 2026, at Creasy Springs Health Campus in Lafayette, Indiana.

She was born on October 10, 1939, in Pineville Kentucky to the late Bud and Susie (Collins) Partin.  Betty graduated from Henderson Settlement High School in Kentucky.

Betty was married to Robert Whistler, who preceded her in death in 1974. Though she experienced loss, she continued through life with strength, humor, and a lively spirit that those around her cherished.

For more than twenty years, Betty worked at Kmart in Monticello, where she became a familiar and friendly face to coworkers and customers alike before eventually retiring.

Betty lived life with a joyful heart and playful sense of fun. One of the highlights of her life was traveling to Indianapolis to watch her favorite NASCAR driver, Jimmie Johnson qualify. Thanks to Creasy Springs "Live a dream" program they made this possible and brought her tremendous happiness.

She found delight in simple pleasures of life. Betty loved playing bingo, following NASCAR races, trying her luck at gambling, and listening to the music of Neil Diamond and Michael Jackson. She never passed up a good snack and could often be found enjoying quiet moments bird watching.

She is survived by three lovely daughters, Gina Marquess ( husband, David) of Burnettsville, Cindy Payne (husband, Tim) of Oxford and Dana Shelton (husband, Russell) of Delphi; grandchildren, Michael R. Sanson of Fortville, Travis Sanson (wife, Kel) of Remington, Cameron Payne of Louisville, KY, Rachel Horrell (husband, Ryan) of Nashville, TN, Kurtis Bowsher (significant other, Nichole) of Monticello and Kayla White (husband, CJ) of Burnettsville; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband Robert, she is preceded in death by nine sisters.

Visitation will be at Roscka Roth & Clapper Funeral Home in Monticello, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 from from 1:00 p.m. until time of services celebrating Betty’s life at 3:00 p.m.

Burial will follow at Hughes Cemetery in Monticello.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Creasy Springs Health Campus and Elara Hospice for the kindness, comfort and attentive care they provided Betty. Their dedication and gentle support meant more to the family than words can express.
