Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home - Brookston
John Maurice Lemming( December 2, 1961 - June 13, 2026 ) John Maurice Lemming, 64, of West Lafayette, Indiana, formerly of Wolcott, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on June 13, 2026. John was born on December 2, 1961, to Glenn and Martha Lemming. He graduated from Tri-County High School in 1980 and married the love of his life, Debra Mills, on June 26, 1982. Together, they shared 44 wonderful years of marriage and spent every possible moment by each other's side. A lifelong supporter of agriculture and youth development, John was deeply involved in 4-H and FFA. He met Deb at the White County 4-H Fair in 1979, and their shared love of family and farming became the foundation of a life filled with purpose and tradition. John enthusiastically supported his children in 4-H and FFA and remained a dedicated supporter of the Tri-County FFA Chapter. He especially loved working with cattle and spending time on the farm, where some of his happiest moments were spent alongside his children and grandchildren caring for livestock, preparing for shows, and passing on the values of hard work and dedication. John had a kind and generous heart and was always willing to lend a hand to family, friends, and neighbors. Whether helping on the farm, baling hay after a full day of work, or responding to someone in need, he quietly put others before himself and never sought recognition for it. John enjoyed the outdoors and could often be found sitting on his front porch, mowing the yard and Lemming Ponds with his kids, fishing on Lake Michigan, or caring for his dogs. He also enjoyed filling in for the Euchre Card Club and having breakfast with friends at the local diner. Family trips to the beach, and his trip with Linzy to England and Wales created many cherished memories that he held close to his heart. John's commitment to serving others extended far beyond his family. He served with the Wolcott Ambulance Service, Wolcott Fire Department, Tippecanoe Emergency Ambulance Service, and Benton County Ambulance Service for over 25 years. Through his work in emergency medical services, John provided comfort, care, and compassion to people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. His dedication to helping others was not simply a profession—it was who he was. In his earlier years, John worked for Wabash National Corporation, Peters-Revington, and the People's Feed Mill. No matter where he worked, he was known as a dependable, hardworking man who could always be counted on. John is survived by his beloved wife, Deb; his children, Jeremy (Kaitlyn) Lemming of Wolcott, Landon (Blair) Lemming of Brookston, and Linzy (Johann) Zander of Jamaica, Iowa. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Colton, Grayson, Braelyn, Payton, and Owen, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by his brothers, Mark Lemming of Wolcott and Mike (Debbie) Lemming of Lafayette; along with many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Martha Lemming, and his in-laws, John and Elsie Mills, who loved him as a son. John's legacy is one of kindness, service, family, and faithfulness. He lived a life centered on helping others, caring for his family, and working with the cattle he loved. The example he set through his compassion, humility, and willingness to serve will continue to inspire all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his love, guidance, and generous spirit will remain in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have shared in his life. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM (EST) Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church of West Lafayette. Funeral Mass 3:00 PM (EST) Friday, June 19, 2026 also at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Fr. Daniel Shine to officiate. Interment to follow in Meadow Lake Cemetery of Wolcott. In lieu of floral arrangements, memorial donations may be made in John’s name to the Tri-County FFA or White County 4-H. |
