Martha A. Alspaugh-Legler, 90, of Monticello, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana.

Born on November 3, 1935, in Rossville, Indiana to the late Floyd K. and Iva P. (Yundt) Crouse, Sr. She was a 1953 graduate of Monticello High School.

She married Bobbie Kelly Alspaugh on March 7, 1954, in Monticello, Indiana. He preceded her in death on January 7, 1997. She later married Floyd L. Legler on August 7, 1999, in Monticello. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2023.

Throughout her life Martha called many places home, including Monticello, San Francisco, Rensselaer, and Remington. She was a devoted homemaker who lovingly raised three children and, as she would say, “two husbands.”

Her faith was the heart of her life. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello, where she faithfully served in many ways as an elder, deacon, choir member, and secretary to the pastor. She was known as a true prayer warrior as a member of End Times Handmaidens, Operation Exodus, and ministries supporting Jesus’return to Israel. She participated in numerous Bible study and benevolent groups and was always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a prayer.

She had a special love for Israel and was blessed to visit twice, including the memorable experience of being baptized in the Sea of Galilee. She helped start the Ecumenical Women’s retreat in Monticello, a ministry that brought women together in faith and fellowship.

For 30 years, she enjoyed working as a Mary Kay consultant, forming many friendships along the way, before retiring in December of 2017.

She is survived by three children, Steven Alspaugh (wife, Linda) of Indianapolis, Scott Alspaugh of Lafayette, Sheryl L. Howard (husband, Brent) of Lafayette; three step-children, Lori Legler Overbeck of Remington, Julie Legler Elson of Ozark, Missouri and Mark Legler of Remington; one sister, A. Catherine Smith of Monticello; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and family friend, Diana L. Phillips of Lake Junaluska, NC.

She is preceded in death by her parents, first and second husband; three brothers James E. Crouse, Floyd K. Crouse, Jr. and Robert C. Crouse; one sister, Mary Jean (Crouse) Miller.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello, 104 N. Illinois Street, at 10:00 a.m. until time of services celebrating Martha’s life at 12:00 p.m.

Interment will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F Cemetery in Monticello.
