Clapper Family Funeral Home - Monon

Donald James Fairchild

( January 31, 1934 - October 26, 2026 )

On October 26, 2026, Donald James Fairchild passed from this world into eternity with Jesus surrounded by loving family and friends. Don was born on January 31, 1934, to Maurice and Lillian (Glick) Fairchild in Monon, Indiana. He attended and graduated from Monon High School and from there he continued his education at Butler University in Indianapolis.

On October 19,1955 he married Anetta McCormick and they recently celebrated 71 years of marriage. Don and Anetta had six children, 14 grand-children, and 31 great-grand-children.

Don was an insurance agent, volunteer fire chief, justice of the peace and judge for the Town of Monon for many years but, what he really loved to do was fish. Vacations were planned around fishing trips and his boat received an abundance of TLC. As much as Don loved to fish he loved his family even more, and his appetite for spending time with his grand and great-grand-children never ran out.

Don had turned his life over to Christ years ago and was never shy about sharing his faith with anyone he happened to be speaking with. He was able to combine his faith, family, and God-given talent by singing “The Lord’s Prayer” at the weddings of each of his children as well as a few of his grand-children.

Don is survived by his wife, Anetta, two sons, Daniel Fairchild of Labelle, FL, and David (Marci) Fairchild of West Chester, OH, and two (twin) daughters, Julia (Greg) Westfall of Zionsville, IN and Judith Harvey of Johnson Creek, WI.

Don is also survived by his sister in law, Susan Fairchild of Madison, IN, daughters-in-law, Marilyn and Michelle Fairchild, brothers-in-law William (Arlene) McCormick and Michael (Donna) McCormick, sisters-in law Ethel Kelleher and Dolores (Tom) Warner. He is also survived by close friend Greg Korean. T’Aundra, Tori, Tenisha, and Biasha, the tireless caregivers who not only cared for Don but also kept the family going throughout this journey.

Don was predeceased by his parents, his brother Lee Edward Fairchild, two sons, Bradley Fairchild and Jeffrey Fairchild, brothers-in-law Michael Kelleher, Dean Perry, Richard McCormick and Jerry Lapacek and  sisters-in-law Carol Lapacek and Theresa Perry.

Visitation will be November 7 from 11:00 - 2:00 with the funeral to follow at the First Baptist Church in Francesville with Pastor Dennis Gutwein officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to LifeWise Academy or the Alzheimer’s Association.
