Alfreda M. Wesner

June 26, 1933 - February 06, 2024

Alfreda M. Wesner, 90, of Chalmers, passed away at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Cumberland Point Healthcare in West Lafayette.

Alfreda was born June 26, 1933 in Lafayette to the late August and Pauline (Vigel) Link.  She was one of 11 graduates of the 1951 class of Wea High School.  After graduation, she lived with her friends, Patsy Royer & Pat Linder, for several years until meeting and marrying the love of her life, James H. Wesner.  She and Jim were married November 6, 1955 in Lafayette at Immanuel United Church of Christ; a marriage that would span 63 years until his passing on April 17, 2019.

A devoted homemaker and farm wife, Alfreda loved raising the couple’s three sons and also helping anywhere needed around the farm including preparing and delivering delicious meals to Jim and his farmhands.  She was a wonderful, kind, generous and loving wife, mother and friend.  Alfreda had little time for anyone who had no compassion for others.

She and Jim were longtime members of the Brookston Federated Church.

Alfreda enjoyed hosting family events, playing the organ at home and playing cards.  She was an avid Euchre player, and everyone knew if you were playing against her, you were in for a time.  She also enjoyed Men’s and Women’s Purdue Basketball.

Alfreda was a Past Worthy Matron of the Brookston Order of the Eastern Star and a lifelong member of the Brookston chapter of Psi Iota Xi sorority.  An excellent cook, she was proud to have contributed more than one recipe to the Psi Iota Xi cookbook.

Surviving are her three sons, Bryan N. Wesner (Gayla) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Bruce A. Wesner (Juanita) of Venice, Florida and Barry D. Wesner (Julie Davenport) of Chalmers.  Alfreda loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, Michael Wesner (Kristin), Brianne Thompson (Trent), Lindsay Wesner, Lauren Gainey (Tyree), Courtney Wesner (Jamie), Carly Riley (Phillip), Bailey Wesner (fiancé: Jared Bain); and her great-grandchildren, Alaina, Keira, Rylee, Taryn, Bryden, Reagan, Dakota and Heaven.

Preceding her in death with her parents August and Pauline, her husband, Jim, and two brothers, Bud Link and Charles Link (Florence) is a great-granddaughter, Hailey Gainey.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2024 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston; Rev.’s David Doles and Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds to officiate.  Interment to follow in the Brookston Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Federated Church of Brookston or Psi Iota Xi sorority.
