Barbara's Obituary
Barbara J. Hurt, 83, of Lathrop, CA, passed away peacefully at her home on August 17, 2026. Born on December 6, 1942, in Blount County, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late William and Grace (Dixon) Atchley.
Barbara was united in marriage to William Hurt on February 15, 1969, and they shared many wonderful years together until his passing on January 10, 2023. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family deeply.
Barbara's life was filled with simple joys such as cooking, crocheting, baking, reading, and watching classic TV shows. She found immense happiness in spending time with her children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories with each of them.
She is survived by her loving children, Theresa (Genero) Sanchez, Charles Michael (Terri) Malay, Steven Stately, Belinda Hurt, Janice Hurt, and April Hurt. Her legacy continues through her 14 grandchildren, Adam (Nikki) Ortiz, Brandon (Lacey) Stately, Christina Nichole (Xavier) Gutierrez, Jasmine Stately, Demetrius Stately, Tyler (Leah) Martin, Michael Anthony (Emily) Malay, Emily (Morris) Diedam, Jacob Martin, Jameelia Stately, Tanner (Lilly) Diedam, Amnona Stately, Elizabeth (Korbin) Diedam, and Maris Page. 16 great-grandchildren, Madeline Grace Summers, Ava Stately, William Stately, Miles Stately, Atticus Stately, Evelyn Lade, Walker Kimberling, Devyn Lee Malay, Chole Louise Malay, Aurora Grace Malay, Lilian Itzia Gutierrez, Ellie Brianne Martin, Brinlee Jo Martin, Amaya Will Martin, Rielle Michelle Martin, and Cooper James Diedam. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Robert Graefen, Tommy Atchley, and Tammy Gruman.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, William Hurt, her parents, her brothers Charles, William, and Douglas Atchley, her sister Sandra Kay Graefen, her granddaughter Brianne Grace Martin, and her son-in-law Stephen Page.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 PM (CST) until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 PM (CST) on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home of Kentland. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery of Kentland.
