Bethel's Obituary
Bethel Nevitt, 92, of Chalmers, passed away at 4:45 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2023 at St. Anthony in Lafayette.
Bethel was born February 19, 1931 in Goodland, Indiana to the late William and Hazel (Meyers) Alexander and was a 1949 graduate of Remington High School.
Her marriage of 31 years was to Ralph R. “Sparky” Nevitt Sr. on October 25, 1953 in Goodland. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1985.
Bethel was a homemaker and worked in the Chalmers Middle School Cafeteria for many years. Bethel also worked for her good friends, the Hartzlers, and would watch the phone while they were away from the funeral home.
She was a long-time member of the Chalmers Community Church and was the church secretary for 29 years.
Bethel enjoyed reading books, word search puzzles and was well known for her chocolate chip cookies. Above all, she always enjoyed having family gatherings at her house.
Surviving is a son, Ralph R. Nevitt Jr. (wife: Marilyn) of Huntington, IN; two daughters, Susan E. Goldstine and Barbara J. Nevitt both of Lafayette and her sister, Rosemary McCool of Lafayette. Bethel loved spending time with her family, especially her 3 grandchildren, Christine, Bobby and Abby and 4 great-grandchildren, Chase, Carly, Aria and Owen.
Preceding her in death with parents and husband are two brothers, Arthur and Bernard Alexander; a son in law, Phil Goldstine; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 2023 at the Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. Funeral service there 10 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2023; family friend Pastor Mark Talbott to officiate. Interment to follow in the Chalmers Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chalmers/Brookston First Response or the Chalmers Community Church.
