Bettie Lea (Brown) Pherson

Bettie Lea (Brown) Pherson, 85, of Monticello, Indiana, died at 4:09 a.m. after years of struggle with chronic back pain, was freed from this on Saturday, July 22, 2023, in the White Oak Health Campus Assisted Living with her loving husband and sons by her side.

Bettie was born on Thursday, December 16, 1937, in Gloucester County, Virginia to Louise (Newton) Brown. She preceded her in death.

On January 12, 1958, in Monticello, Indiana in the Zion Bethel Church she married Merle L. Pherson. He survives.

Bettie was born and raised in Gloucester County, Virginia.  She moved to Monticello her junior year in high school at the Monticello High School where she graduated 1956. Many of her classmates were life-long friends. Christmas was the highlight of each year.  So much so, that her favorite place to visit was Frankenmuth, Michigan, where Christmas is celebrated year-round.

Bettie is survived by her husband Merle L. Pherson of Monticello, Indiana, sons, Shawn (wife Sharon) Pherson of Monticello, Indiana, Patrick (wife Marye) Pherson of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Michael Pherson of Naples, Florida, four (4) grandsons, one (1) granddaughter, and seven (7) great-grandchildren, one (1) sister, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.

Bettie is preceded in death by her mother, Louise (Newton) Schock, daughter, Melissa Pherson, five (5) siblings.

Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. in the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery of rural Monticello, Indiana with Pastor Benji Riddle officiating.

Memorial donations may be given to the White County Food Pantry.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed to 6368 E. US 24, Monticello, Indiana, 47960 C/O Pherson family.
