Catherine M. “Katie” McNelis Haun, 70, of Zionsville, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2021.

She was born September 2, 1950, in Indianapolis.  The daughter of Patrick J. and Margaret M. (Sullivan) McNelis.  She grew up in Irvington and graduated from St. Agnes Academy in 1969.  In her 50s, she became a Certified Natural Healthcare Professional from Trinity College.   After retirement, she spent the winter months in Hilton Head, SC.  This allowed her to teach a continuing education class on health at the University of South Carolina.

Katie was an accomplished public speaker. While most people shy away from the spotlight, she sought out opportunities to share her knowledge and faith.

Her marriage of 43 years was to David S. Haun on November 12, 1977 at St. John The Evangelist Church in Indianapolis.

Katie worked as a loan officer in the credit union of Eli Lilly and Company for over 30 years, retiring in 2002.  She often said “no one cares more about your money or your health than you do”.

At Lilly, Katie was a loaned executive for United Way speaking at many local companies seeking their support.

Katie owned and operated Katie’s Enterprises, specializing in detoxification, nutritional products, and healthcare services to enhance the body’s ability to heal itself.

Above all, Katie and Dave were best friends.  As a couple, they traveled the British Isles, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and throughout the U.S. golfing on more than one hundred courses.  Katie scored a hole-in-one on the Prestwick Course in Scotland from the men’s tee (no women’s tee there) along with three additional holes-in-one in the U.S.  One of the couples’ favorite vacations was a trip to Israel led by their friend Pastor Carl Broggi, Beaufort, S.C.

Katie was a member of Ulen Country Club. In addition to golf, she was an accomplished downhill skier and performance rower at Eagle Creek.  For the last 35 years she ran or walked the 500 Mini Marathon. She was proud to have maintained dual citizenships in both Ireland and the United States.

Katie is survived by her husband David, her sisters Julia McNelis, Mary Ellen Utter, Maggie Ban (Jerry) two brothers, Patrick McNelis (Sue) and James McNelis and sister-in-law, Marty Morrison (Dave) and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Tom.

Friends may call from noon until the time of her funeral service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at College Park Church (2606 W. 96th Street Indianapolis, IN  46268); Pastor Dale Shaw to officiate.  Private interment to occur in Hutton Cemetery, Zionsville.

Memorials may be given in Katie’s name to the Henry C. Ulen Foundation for a tree that will be planted in memory of Katie or to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
