Charles R. Rheude

Charles R. Rheude, 100, of Kentland, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Green Hill Manor of Fowler.

He was born on January 5, 1920 in Iroquois County, IL to the late Nicholas G. and Pearl (Cross) Rheude. Charles was a 1939 graduate of Sheldon High School in Illinois. He was a proud WWII Veteran serving in the United States Army stationed in Adak, Alaska.

His marriage was to Gertrude M. Denton on May 17, 1944 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kentland. Gertrude passed away on January 5, 2008.

Charles was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the American Legion of both Fowler and Earl Park. He was a lifelong farmer in Benton County.

Charles enjoyed flying, Amateur Radio, riding motorcycles, gardening, traveling with the RV, and spending winter months in Florida.

Charles is survived by his two children, Sandra (Terry) Van Winkle of Rio Verde, AZ and Ron (Ling) Rheude of Mineral, VA. Also surviving is a grandson, Charles R. Rheude.

Preceding him in death along with his wife and parents is a sister, Freida Mae Leveque.

A private graveside will be held in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery of Kentland. Fr. Robert Bernotas to officiate the committal service.

Memorial contributions may be made in Charles’s name to the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
